Free Online University-Based Cognitive Therapy (CBT) On The Internet
Cognitive Therapy, also known as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a technique to help anxiety and depression which has been practised for very many years, mainly by psychologists and to a
limited extent by some psychiatrists. Research has repeatedly shown it is effective when used alone in mild to moderate depression and research has also repeatedly shown that the combination of medication with CBT produces the best outcome.
CBT is also very effective in fighting off relapses of anxiety or depression, especially if you are not taking medication in the future.
The Australian National University, using the results of years of expertise and research, has launched a free service on the internet to help people with anxiety and depression through the use of CBT.
You can register on the site (using either your real name or make up a name if you are concerned about your privacy but do remember the name you choose!). You will also need to provide an email address to receive your password (You can create a new anonymous Hotmail or similar email address if you wish your current email address identifies you and you have concerns about this.)
The system will then ask you about your symptoms and indicate in the results how severe your symptoms are and will then guide you through the process of helping to treat yourself. You can come back to the system as often as you like and continue your free on-line therapy whenever it suits you.
This therapy would normally cost hundreds of dollars.
The site is called MoodGym. The internet reference is
